Come Follow Me Insight #1

Once the earth was created, God gave Adam and Eve two opposing laws: 1) have children (Genesis 1:28), 2) don’t eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:2-3). They couldn’t possibly keep both laws, so they had to choose between them. Most people think Eve eating the fruit was a huge mistake– but we know it was actually the harder of two choices: to leave the Garden and be able to have children.

(Genesis 3:16) In the Garden of Eden account, God tells Eve that Adam will “rule over” her. That doesn’t sit well with a lot of women.
But good news, gals! The original Hebrew word translated as “rule over” would better be translated as “rule with.” Now that I can get behind! (See Bruce C. Hafen’s Ensign article on this topic)
