This Week's Reading: 2 Galatians 11-14

Come Follow Me Insight #1

Galatians 2 includes a little side story that puts the apostle Peter in a slightly awkward light.

Verses 11 – 14 tell the story of Paul coming to the city of Antioch and having an argument with Peter. What was the argument over?

Peter had received a heavenly vision that clarified that Gentiles were NOT unclean. Peter had even eaten with Gentiles, which was a huge deal as it went completely against Jewish culture. However, when a contingency of Jews arrived in Antioch, Peter began distancing himself from the Gentiles because he was worried about what the Israelites would think. Because of Peter’s example others began to fall into the same error of avoiding Gentiles. Paul then called out Peter for his behavior. (Source)

Awkward? Yes. But Paul was totally right.
