3 Things to Know

The talk “Favored of the Lord in All My Days” by Elder Moisés Villanueva

1. Something cool from Elder Villanueva

3 Things to Know from Oct 2021 General Conference

I was so impressed by Elder Villanueva’s faith!  Right at the beginning of his talk, he shared that within a matter of five weeks his brother, sister, and brother-in-law all died.  Yet despite that pain, he spent his talk sharing about how GOOD life can be even when things are hard.

2. Something you might have missed

Elder Villanueva talked about why the Savior would have cried with Mary and Martha after Lazarus’ death.  After all, he knew Lazarus would soon be alive again.  He said it was because He understood their current pain and didn’t fault them for their shortsightedness.  I love that insight that Jesus weeps with us simply because we weep.  Though his eternal perspective is perfect, He has compassion for those of us whose perspectives are more myopic.

He quoted Nephi as saying, “Having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days,” (1 Nephi 1:1) and that was the main lesson of his talk: that having a hard life doesn’t mean it’s not a good life.  We can be happy even when life looks and feels awful!
